History of Motorola, Before the Motorola Droid
With a home base of operations in Schaumburg, Illinois, Motorola has become one of the world largest cell phone and wireless devices manufacturers. 1983 saw Motorola invent the first portable phone to be available to the general public. The first commercial cell phone was engineered by Dr. Martin Cooper who was the former Motorola general manager of their systems division. The Motorola Dyna-tac was the first working prototype of the cellular phone. The size of the cell phone was 9 inches length, 5 inches width and 1.75 inches height. The Dyna-tac was weighed in at 2.5 pounds and unfortunately it only had a small battery life of about 30 minutes. With this Motorola phone, the only thing you could expect to accomplish with it is to talk to a person and listen. It also required to be charged up to 10 hours at a time.
Branching out from their Motorola as gone on to launch succesful brands of other types of components for laptops, and other telecommunication devices. One of the famous cell phones they have created is the Motorola RAZR line which sold more than 120 million units which made Motorola in the number two mobile phone slot in 2005.
The Motorola Droid Arrives
The latest mobile phone designed by Motorola is the Motorola Droid cell phone for sale. It is an internet and multimedia smart phone. The wireless smart phone is built on the Android operating system made by Google. Verizon cell phone customers are the only ones who can buy this Verizon cell phone at this time.
The size of the Motorola Droid is 2.4 inches height by 4.6 inches width by 5 inches in diameter. The screen has 3.7 inches WVGA which is 480 x 854 pixels. The Motorola Droid for Verizon has an ARM Cortex A8 CPU which is a 600MHz, OMAP3430 chip down clocked to 550MHz. The CPU of the Motorola Droid is similar to the chip inside the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre. It also has a 256MB of RAM, and 512MB of ROM.
There are continually significant improvements made to the operating system. It supports job (Exchange) and private (G-mail) e-mails in one inbox. You can also find all your contacts in job, personal and Facebook friends in one universal buddy list.
There is also the turn by turn navigation or GPS which the DROID launched integrated with Google Maps. Included with this is talking directions to guide you as well as maps and other functions to help you and your traffic adventures. It also has a location services thru Google Maps™ Navigation (BETA), Google Latitude™, Google Maps Street View, and eCompass.
Not only does it have a fully functions touch screen but also a slide out keyword. Added in with the other things this smart phone can do, it has a LED flash, 5.0 megapixal camera. The camera has more control over white balance, focal length, flash settings and effects. For the video, it had a 720 x 480 resolution.
