April 14th is Patrick Ewing Day

Hello again folks. I'm writing this hub as a favor to a friend. You see, he has started a movement on facebook that he wanted me to help him promote. What movement is that you ask? Its a movement to try and get as many people as possible to celebrate April 14th as Patrick Ewing Day. What precedes is a very interesting tail and perhaps gives some insight into the genesis of some of our strangest internet phenomenons.

After all, some of you maybe thinking, who exactly is Patrick Ewing. Some of you may know who he is and may be wondering what has he done that is deserving of his own day. Some of you may have questions that I can't think of. Well hopefully this hub will answer the ones I do think you maybe asking.

My friend Antonio got into a facebook disagreement with his friend up and coming rapper Polo Champ about the Icon status of Patrick Ewing. Polo felt that though Ewing was a good center, he shouldn't be classified as an icon when it comes to basketball. My friend Antonio on the other hand disagreed. Then apparently some other shared the sentiment that they agreed with Cleveland born rapper Polo Champ. 

So what happens literally had me busting at my sides. Antonio told me that "If no one things Patrick Ewing is an icon, then I will make him an icon." Now what makes the story even more amusing, is that much like myself, Antonio is a virtual nobody in the grand scheme of things. So you can enjoy the entertainment value of a virtual nobody with the delusion to think that he can elevate someone to icon status. But the story gets better.

So my friend wonders to himself how can he elevate Patrick Ewing to icon status. With his backwards, outside of the box, you never know what to expect thinking, he says "I will give Patrick Ewing his own holiday."  Now frankly at this point I facepalmed. So now there is an official "April14th is now Patrick Ewing Day" facebook group. Not to mention you can now follow Patrick Ewing Day on twitter

This group is for fans all over the world to recognize Patrick Ewing for his great contributions to society and some other stuff he asked me to say. I'm following this and reporting on it because, dumber social experiments have attracted more attention. So who knows if I can see a buddy of mine get a kick or two, that would be pretty awesome. 

Patrick Ewing Day is for anyone who enjoys having a goodtime. Where you enjoy going to church or having a shot of Absolut Black, its kind of like a mid year thanksgiving. And since we need a reason to party and have a vacation day, not to mention hump day kind of sucks, Patrick Ewing Day is the day for you. Its kind of like festivus, but only better.
